Experience
I earned my bachelor of arts degree in Global Studies, which I studied at the Long Island University's LIU Global program. I wrote my thesis about how play and games affect learning. This lets you know right away that I like to make tutoring sessions as entertaining as possible. I believe building up a student's curiosity for a subject helps them learn it better. This works well for me, as I tutor students in Spanish, or in English as a Second Language, and there is much fun to be had in learning to express ourselves in a whole new way through a new language. I like to work with individual students, where I first identify the student's interests, strengths, and goals, and that design customized lessons based on these factors, adjusting as necessary throughout our time together. I have a wide variety of tutoring experience with a diverse group of students, including the time I tutored students learning English in Thailand, and devising and implementing Spanish curriculum for students who are homeschooled. I believe in experiential learning, so I use things like movies, games, music, and other hands-on activities in lessons, along with quizzes and tests to encourage students by showing them their improvement.
